The headlines since the 2024 election keep showing grim events. As a person who studies public administration and politics, it is disconcerting to see what is happening to my country. That is correct, this is MY COUNTRY! Even though I am THE CHILDLESS SINGLE CAT LADY.
It is due to the current political issues, government shutdown, National Guard deployment in Chicago, Portland, and Washington, D.C, as well as attacks on United States Citizens by Agents of ICE, that got me to start this blog.
Government Shutdown
First the government shutdown. The current means of creating the government spending budget was established by the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921, not the Constitution of the United States. That makes sense, considering it lead the way for the policies in the New Deal that FDR encouraged Congress to put in place to help those in need, creating Social Security, unemployment insurance, minimum wage legislation and labor protections for children.
The social programs and military depend on the government budget for their financial support. The shutdown means our military employees are not receiving pay for their service. They have no choice. They signed a contract they have to honor. They are basically slaves at this point, as they are working without being paid.
Congress is content to keep posturing and throwing temper tantrums, instead of working together to do what is best for the people. Republicans are blaming Democrats, Democrats are blaming Republicans. Where are our “Third Parties”? They used to balance these ass hats out in the 80’s!
This is my message to all of Congress: STOP BEING CHILDREN! Read the Constitution! Learn your roll! Do what you were elected to do. Stop all this posturing, power grabbing, and blaming. Get off your high horses and put the people first!
