I AM THE CHILDLESS SINGLE CAT LADY

My name is Bonnie Kayser. I am single, childless, and own a cat. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and Master of Science in Public Administration with an emphasis in Public Policy from South University. I was born and raised in Eureka, California. I currently live in Virginia. My parents were working class, blue collar. I am the youngest of a mixed family. I have a step brother, step sister, half sister, and sister.

My first professional life was as a high school mathematics teacher. For twenty years I taught, wandering through California, Illinois and Virginia. After No Child Left Behind was enacted in 2003, I realized just how much policy effects what happens in the classroom. By 2009, I was planning on leaving the profession and was working on my Master degree in Public Administration with the goal of encouraging policy change for education.

I completed my degree in 2010 as one of two people in the first graduating Master program candidates from South University. I did not write a thesis, instead I completed extra course work in Public Policy – Intergovernmental Agency Cooperation. In hind sight, it put me at a disadvantage for when I went back for my PhD. I did not complete my dissertation. I am all but dissertation for my PhD in Public Policy and Administration with a specialization in Policy Analysis from Walden University.

Why call myself THE CHILDLESS SINGLE CAT LADY? When I first heard the phrase was used by our now Vice President JD Vance as a derogatory term for educated women who put career before family, I thought I would take up the mantel.

There is just one thing…I could not have children. Not that I did not want them.
